Oops! We’re already into Labor Day weekend. How did that happen?

As my husband’s gardens are being harvested, and the days are cooling and shortening, I’m feeling like I want to share some resources with you.

Three people who I admire, Keli Anderson, Karen Hanmer and David Butler have recently made slew of documents and vidoes available. We are so lucky!

One of projects on Kelli Anderson’s Cut/Fold Templates page

Kelli Anderson has posted 37 Cut/Fold templates that are accompanied by black and white images showing how each of these many constructions move. Kelli has also provided a full color tutorial video for each project, which is easy to miss because the type is faint, so I’m pointing it out to you with that brown arrow in the screen share above. The video pops up in front of the black and white images. It’s quite wonderful to have all of these structures demonstrated in one place. And be sure to click on the Supplementary Resources and Readings arrow. You will be stunned and delighted by how much is collected there!

Book Model by Karen Hanmer, which is housed in the Cary Collection at RIT. That’s my hand holding Karen’s book.

Karen Hanmer, who has been making books, teaching, and creating workshop handouts for thirty years, has made her handouts available as free downloads. I was tempted to download them all but fortunately realized that many of these pages are in the book I have of hers entitled Contemporary Paper Bindings, A guide to bookbinding techniques, tools, and materials.

Oh, and Karen’s page isn’t just bookbinding tutorials. Look through her list! For instance, one of her pages is called Book Biz: Making Connections and Creating Opportunities/.

Another resource that has come on-line. which has captivated and colored my summer is a playlist of 58 videos posted by David Butler, who, in his spare time, writes about his work in teaching and learning and art and maths. The playlist that he put together is geometric constructions using only a pencil a two-sided straight edge. The videos are all about constructions, using relationship thinking in ways that are all new and spectacularly fascinating to me. There is a blog post to go with each of his videos.

There is just about nothing I like better than sitting down at a desk with a blank piece of paper and a sharp pencil. All summer long I have been listening to David’s voice and watching his hands move as his constructions challenge and delight me. I made my own video of his #53 construction of an equilateral triangle so that you, dear reader, might have a go at it. David’s videos build on previous videos, so if I had just directed you to his #53 video you might be able to follow it, but you would miss out on a good bit of the backstory that makes these constructions so delightful. Oh, okay, here’s David’s #53 video. Watch his, but watch mine too.

Another resource that I want to mention that has been available for quite some time is one that I hope you already know about and subscribe to, is Jade Quek’s newsletter. About 10 times a year Jade shares info about all things book arts that she has gleaned from many sources. From what I understand, this newsletter started as documents for her to keep track of things for herself. Although her mailing list is quite large at this point, the newsletter retains to the feel of being a personal list of things. Some of her listings are time-sensitive, others are evergreen. There’s also a nicely organized page that can take you back in time to her previous newsletters, so you can see what you missed.

Lastly, another resource that I want to point out in case you haven’t noticed it here on my blog is my own page of video playlists. which provides easy access to videos I’ve made over the years which includes, for instance, 35 videos made with working with children in mind, eight videos of Hedi Kyle structures, and my Frieze Symmetry Lessons for Artists

I think there’s enough here to keep you busy through the next Labor Day weekend. Enjoy.
